YANKEES WIN

Live 09 Nov 2007 version

[Beginning cut]

It's the end of the last tour, E Street Band looking for a place to play
We went to Yankee Stadium, but the Boss Man turned us away
We went up north to Fenway and those kind folks let us in
Oh, lord, Yankees losed

Well, Joe, we wish you plenty of luck and good fortune, and
We don't know when we'll be seeing the likes of you again
You could teach a master class in class, and so, my good friend
Thanks for all those thrills and chills and all those Yankee wins

[Spoken outro:] Thank you! A masterpiece! That will be the first cut on my next album. (laughs)

Info

Bruce Springsteen played a half-hour acoustic set at the fifth annual Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation benefit that was held on 09 Nov 2007 at Chelsea Piers in New York City. For the occasion, he wrote a new song tentatively called "Yankees Win", about Torre leaving the New York Yankees and moving to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The above lyrics are for that unique 09 Nov 2007 performance of the song. They are transcribed from an audience-shot video that was posted on YouTube in February 2009. The video is cut at the beginning and the above are the song's last two verses only; event attendee Pam Farquhar told Backstreets.com that "the song got a little ribald as he described Patti in a Yankee hat and pinstripes," a part which is absent on this footage.
