The above lyrics are for The Pointer Sisters' cover version of FIRE. It's the first single from their 1978 album Energy. The song became a hit single, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1979. FIRE would eventually become The Pointer Sister's highest-charting single, along with the 1981 hit SLOW HAND. FIRE was an international chart hit for The Pointer Sisters, reaching #1 in Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa, and New Zealand, and charting in Australia (#7), Austria (#10), Canada (#3), Germany (#35) and the UK (#34).

During a 2014 interview on the Bullseye With Jesse Thorn radio show, Anita Pointer of The Pointer Sisters told host Jesse Thorn: "['Fire'] became our first gold single. We had had gold albums before but I didn't realize what a difference a gold single made, because this is a song that's played — that one song — over and over and over and all over the world. And it really became a major hit for us and made a total difference in our career."
