So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony PCM-M1 with a Nakamichi Mic. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. Volume 70 of the Tape Man Joe collection takes us for the first time into the reunion era. Most of what Joe has previously shared has come from three tours. Born In The U.S.A, Tunnel Of Love and the Human Touch/Luckytown tours. This is also the first share from Joe made with a Digital Audio Tape. Joe shelved his trusty Sony D6 for a Sony PCM-M1. My first introduction to Bruce was in 1995, when a buddy of mine purchased and was playing his Greatest Hits collection in his car. I become a fan instantly and started to seek out and grow my collection. It was too long before I was spending $75 on a copy of “Independence Day” at a local record shop. I even was naive enough to send another $75 bucks to a guy in New Jersey to purchase a copy of “Piece de Resistance”. Thankfully it wasn’t a scam and I have those Great Dane Silvers to this day. I couldn’t quench my thirst and sent a $1,000 cashiers check to a guy in Canada to purchase a bunch of CDRs a short time later. As the Reunion tour began to take shape, I started to dive into trading. It was a murky pool unless you knew somebody with quality stuff. I remember vividly getting home from a trip in June of 1999 to find that the copy of “A Big Big Night” was there in the mail. I stayed up really late that night listening and hoping to get a glimpse of the tour. The Auburn Hills shows were moved from August to September. The same buddy of mine who introduced me to Bruce called me and said that we should find a way to go. We did and I saw a total of 9 shows on the 1999-2000 tour. Crisscrossing the nation from Michigan, to Illinois, to Minnesota, to Ohio and finally Nevada and Utah. The same buddy tired to convince me to quit my job and go see a couple of shows in New York City. Thankfully I didn’t because I have 11 years. 11 months and 2 days to go before I can retire (but who is counting) from the fortune 100 company that I work for. So yes the reunion tour holds a special place in my heart. In hindsight the tour was flawed in many ways. So many great songs from “Tracks” were almost completely ignored. Why did Bruce decide to rotate the worst song from “Darkness on the edge of Town" and “Nebraska” on a nightly basis? What was he thinking with the “reworked” version of “The River”? My God did we need “Out in The Street” and “10th Ave, Freeze-out” to drag out for 20 minutes a night? Why play “Thunder Road” in a fashion that seemed like you were just going through the motions? Sorry for digressing from the matter at hand here. Joe’s master gives us at least four known recordings to date (see details below). To my knowledge his recording is uncirculated to this point. The other three recordings are currently available on Jungleland if you would like to compare. Recorder 1- Uploaded from a CDR by Flynn. He noted that the recording was clear, sharp, and close. It only missed 11 seconds of music from “Racing In The Street”. Recorder 2- Another CDR rip upload. It sounds like it’s a couple of generations removed from the master. There are many cuts and is for hardcore fans only. Recorder 3-Bossman284 Master via Hobbes4444 and EarlMV. Recorder 4- Tape Man Joe Master. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.MY LOVE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN 02.PROVE IT ALL NIGHT 03.TWO HEARTS 04.DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN 05.DARLINGTON COUNTY 06.MANSION ON THE HILL 07.POINT BLANK 08.YOUNGSTOWN 09.MURDER INCORPORATED 10.BADLANDS 11.OUT IN THE STREET 12.TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT 13.WORKING ON THE HIGHWAY 14.SHE'S THE ONE 15.THE GHOST OF TOM JOAD 16.RACING IN THE STREET 17.LIGHT OF DAY 18.FREEHOLD 19.HUNGRY HEART 20.BORN TO RUN 21.THUNDER ROAD 22.IF I SHOULD FALL BEHIND 23.LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS Known faults: Microphone issues during "Murder Inc".
