After starting to tape during the end of the US leg of the ’84/‘85 tour, I thought that taking some time off and using my frequent flyer miles and hotel freebies was a great opportunity to go see Bruce at the 3 shows at the old, cavernous Wembley Stadium. My ticket scalper in NYC had a contact with a tout in London, so my tickets were set up. After seeing 4 Grateful Dead shows in 5 days I drove back to NYC and went to the office, then went to JFK and caught the TWA 747 to London. Got thru customs and checked into the airport Hilton to get settled, then took the Tube to Piccadilly to visit the tout and pick up the tickets. Each thought I paid the other, so they ended up being free too! Back to the hotel for a brief nap, then pack the tape deck, microphone, tapes and batteries in my magic bag to hide them from security and off to Wembley via the Tube. Got there and was able to make my way close to an entrance, so when the gates opened at 4p I was advanced enough to make my way down the stand and onto the pitch, getting to about halfway between the soundboard and the stage, dead-center. For 80,000 people all General Admission I thought this was pretty good! I was able to get to this same spot for each of the shows. My neighbors were all nice folks, and I was able to record with few problems. Back on SPL in the old days I digitized this for someone as it was his first show. Thanks to hobbes4444 for a fresh transfer from my master tapes, and to hrubesh for the hours of trying to improve the raw recording to create a better end-product. Add this to the previously released remasters of 1985-07-04 and 1985-07-06 that the same team put together for the full “box set” of Wembley ’85! JimCT Recorded by JimCT. Transferred by hobbes4444.
