This should be considered a bit of an upgrade from a known lineage tape out of my own archives. This tape transfer came about after a discussion with some fellow collectors regarding the cut in the intro to "Double Shot Of My Baby's Love" that is present on the most common circulating versions of this show. It was noted the cut is absent on this song on the Swingin' Pig LP bootleg "Rockin' Days". There is no cut in the intro on this 2nd generation transfer. September was a strong month for the 1978 tour. Coming off a wildly successful radio broadcast from Cleveland we get two additional radio broadcasts that would help solidify Bruce's reputation as one of the greatest live performers ever to grace a stage, a couple of multi night stands and a whopping ten tour premiers throughout the month. Even with those now legendary shows to choose from, if I had the opportunity to see any one 1978 tour show, this one in South Bend would have to be in the running. The setlist for this show speaks for itself, we get a rare second slot "Candy's Room" that really sets the tone for the night, a 1978 performance of "It's My Life", premieres of "Double Shot Of My Baby's Love" and "Louie Louie" for the college crowd and a wonderful "For You" dedicated to "some girl that came up to the bus this afternoon with a pizza". The recording is excellent throughout, close with nice instrument separation and a wide spectrum. The taper must be commended for doing an exceptional job capturing the night's performance. 'Prove It All Night' is cut and we are missing the end of the first set. All mic bumps, drop outs, etc have been repaired as seamlessly as possible. Overall, I'd consider this one of the best shows of the 1978 tour as well as one of the best quality audience captures. mjk5510
