YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO ME

Well she comes to me like a childhood soul
Or an old time friend I ain't seen in so long
When she sings to me she's like a Robin's song
She can be so sweet, she don't do me no wrong

You mean so much to me baby
You know you drive me crazy
You mean so much to me baby
I want you for my girl

Well sometimes she's like a baby playing with a toy
Then she's so much woman she makes me feel like a little boy
And when she comes to me, and she's all alone
And she cries "Oh daddy, oh daddy make me strong"

That's when she means so much to me baby
You know you drive me crazy
You mean so much to me baby
I want you for my girl
Yes I do

Well she comes to me like a childhood soul
Or an old time friend I ain't seen so long
When she sings to me she's like a Robin's song
She can be so sweet, oh she don't do me no wrong

You mean so much to me baby
You know you drive me crazy
You mean so much to me baby
You mean so much to me baby
You know you drive me crazy
You mean so much to me baby
I want you for my girl
I want you for my girl
I want you

Covered by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes with Ronnie Spector. Originally a Bruce Springsteen Band number, and it was in this incarnation that the song is carried off best, with a wall of sound in the shape of huge female backing vocals. This track became a live regular in the early 70's with the E-streeters, especially on the various radio programs they did when the song was performed acoustically.

A 1971-1974 live classic. Rendered in small clubs till 1977. Covered by Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes on their album I Don't Want to Go Home in 1976.
