TRAVELIN' BAND©

Live 31 Jul 1984 version

...Seven Fourty Seven comin' out of the sky
Won't you take me down to Detroit on a midnight ride*
I wanna move
Playin' in a travelin' band

Woah!
Flyin' 'cross the land, tryin' to get a hand
Playin' in a travelin' band

Listen to the radio, talkin' 'bout the last show
Someone got excited, had to call the State Militia
Wanna move
Playin' in a travelin' band

I'm flyin' 'cross the land, tryin' to get a hand
Playin' in a travelin'

Here we come again, Saturday night**
With your fussin' and your fightin'
Just get me to the show
I gotta move
Playin' in a travelin' band

Flyin' 'cross the land, tryin' to get a hand
Playin' in a travelin'
Playin' baby in a travelin' band
Playin' in a travelin' band
Playin' in a travelin' band
Playin' in a travelin' band
Flyin' 'cross the land, tryin' to get a hand
Playin' in a travelin' band...

Written by John Fogerty, from Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1970 album Cosmo's Factory.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory

The song first appeared during the Born In The USA tour when it was always included as part of the DETROIT MEDLEY starting on 31 Jul 1984 at Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI. On 13 Sep 1985 at Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX, the song was added as a stand alone in the encores in response to an artificial leg being thrown on the stage, and hence was performed 9 times in total out of the 10 remaining shows of the tour.

Performed off-tour on:

  • 22 Aug 1984 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, with La Bamba and the Hubcaps
  • 03 Sep 1984 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, with John Eddie and the Front Street Runners
  • 02 Jun 1989 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, with Killer Joe, Max, Roy, Patti, and the Tunnel Of Love tour Horns
  • 09 Jul 1989 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, with Cats on Smooth Surface
  • 01 Mar 1990 at The Forum, Inglewood, CA, with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan
  • 12 Jul 1991 at The Rumrunner, Seabright, NJ, with Bobby Bandiera
  • 04 Aug 1991 at Cheers, Long Branch, NJ, with The Outcry

Rehearsed for the Vote For Change tour on 29 Sep 2004 at the Convention Hall, Asbury Park, NJ, and played twice with John Fogerty during the tour, on:

  • 03 Oct 2004 at Cobo Arena, Detroit, MI
  • 13 Oct 2004 at the Continental Arena, East Rutherford, NJ

The above lyrics refer to the version used in the DETROIT MEDLEY (between BOOGIE IMPROVISATION and DEVIL WITH THE BLUE DRESS reprise) on 31 Jul 1984 at Joe Lewis Arena, Detroit, MI, during the Born In The USA tour.
