The above lyrics are for the cover by Kevin Rowland. It has significant lyrics variations to Springsteen's version.

Kevin Rowland's version of THUNDER ROAD was supposed to be released on his 1999 album My Beauty, but the song was pulled from the album at the last minute due to Springsteen not approving to the lyrical re-writes done by Kevin Rowland, which totally changed the meaning of the song. The promo-CD distributed (to radio/press) prior to the official album did have THUNDER ROAD.

My Beauty was a collection of interpretations of classic songs. It is infamous for its font cover, which shows Rowland in drag and heavy make up. The album was a commercial and artistic failure. Upon release, it was lambasted by critics, and only sold 500 copies making it one of the lowest selling albums in Creation records history.
