SHE'S THE ONE

a.k.a. VIRGIN SUMMER NIGHTS

Early live version 1

With your killer graces and your secret places that no boy can fill
With your hands on her hips, well and that smile on your lips well you know that it kills me
And soft French cream well your a young boy's dream and all the girls want to rip you apart
And French cream won't soften and those French kisses will not soften you heart
Well that smile that shines down on me, one that burns just like the sun
Well she's the one, she's the one, she's the one, she's the one

Well it was not distance and it was not length, that brought down us girl
It was a date last night and a lovers fight in a mixed up baby's world
And you were with me in New York the time we pushed real hard and baby I got beat
You ran and left me wastin', wastin' ohhh right there in the street
With a smile that shines down on me, one that burns just like the sun
Yeah she's the one, she's the one, she's the one, she's the one

And I hated her Ma, and I hated her Pop, hated the kids, we hated the dog
And I hated the lies and I hated the truth that run us down
Hated her town, one day, I hated the way they made us live
I hated him and his fancy ways
And I hated you when you ran away*
Ohh she's the one, oh she's the one, oh she's the one, oh she's the one

Now your back and you heard me on the corner baby just like a child
Yeah back on your feet, come out into the street where the danger runs wild
Yeah remember all the movies, all them movies that we'd go see
Trying to learn how to walk, talk, talk just like all those heroes we thought we had to be*
And a smile that shines, shines and burns just like the sun
Yeah she's the one, she's the one, she's the one, she's the one
Ohhhhh
Heyyyyyy

In its early incarnation this track included elements of what was later to become BACKSTREETS before evolving into the version included on the album. Often half of a medley including MONA during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town tour, this track drips with lust, of denying a need until it becomes too strong. Also known as VIRGIN SUMMER NIGHTS, some lyrics also turned up earlier in HEY SANTA ANA.

One of the early versions that were performed live before the Born To Run album's version. Check also early live version 2.

* These verses are very similar to the ones that later appeared in BACKSTREETS.
