MACHO MAN is a song written by Henri Belobo, Jacques Morali, Peter Whitehead, and Victor Willis. It was originally recorded and released in February 1978 by Village People as the title track of their album Macho Man (Casablanca Records, catalogue number NBLP 7096). That same month, the song was released as the album's second single, with KEY WEST on the B-side (Casablanca Records, catalogue number NB 922).

Springsteen's Version

Although they have never performed it in full, the E Street Band played and/or Clarence Clemons occasionally sang a line from MACHO MAN during the band introductions in the middle of ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town Tour in 1978. See the live 09 Aug 1978 version of ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) for an example.
