LOVE (STAND UP)Album's versionLove... you're the one Page last updated: 30 Mar 2008Written by Patti Scialfa, LOVE (STAND UP) is from her second album 23rd Street Lullaby which she released on 15 Jun 2004 on Columbia Records.
Bruce Springsteen plays electric guitar and electronic keyboards on the studio recording of three songs from 23rd Street Lullaby: YOU CAN'T GO BACK, ROSE, and LOVE (STAND UP). He is also credited for some photography on the album's artwork. Springsteen's parts were recorded in early 2004 at Thrill Hill East, Springsteen's home studio in Rumson, NJ. The five nights of the 2001 Asbury Park holiday shows were billed as "Bruce Springsteen with The Max Weinberg 7 and Friends". The Max Weinberg 7 served as the house band, with Bruce bringing others in and out the stage. Each night, Patti Scialfa got a two-songs set in the spotlight: LOVE (STAND UP) and SPANISH DANCER. Bruce played guitar on Patti's songs.
Note that these five live performances of LOVE (STAND UP) took place almost three years prior to the song's official release. On 18 Apr 2004, Patti Scialfa performed two shows (afternoon and evening) at The Hit Factory, New York City, NY, to promote her second solo album, 23rd Street Lullaby. Patti's full set at each performance ran about an hour and a half, debuting many of the songs from her new record, and was filmed for promotional use. Toward the end of each set, Bruce Springsteen joined his wife's band (which included Nils Lofgren, Soozie Tyrell, and The Rising cellist Jane Scarpantoni) playing guitar and sharing backup vocals on two numbers: LOVE (STAND UP) and AS LONG AS I (CAN BE WITH YOU). The live performance of AS LONG AS I (CAN BE WITH YOU) from one of the two sets was officially released on a limited edition 3-track bonus CD issued with initial copies of 23rd Street Lullaby. Bruce again joined Patti Scialfa and her band (featuring E Streeters Nils Lofgren and Soozie Tyrell), playing guitar and sharing backup vocals on AS LONG AS I (CAN BE WITH YOU) and LOVE (STAND UP) during her five-city tour. He appeared onstage for the two songs on three dates:
On the final night of Springsteen's Vote For Change tour, on 13 Oct 2004 at the Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ, Patti Scialfa and her band opened this homecoming show. Bruce once again joined Patti on AS LONG AS I (CAN BE WITH YOU) and LOVE (STAND UP). The above lyrics are for the 23rd Street Lullaby album's version of LOVE (STAND UP). Check out also the live 06 Dec 2001 version. |
