I DON'T WANT NO MORE OF THIS ARMY LIFE©

Live 28 Oct 1995 version

Five o'clock in the morning and I gazed upon the wall
The bed bugs and the roaches were having a game of ball
The score was six to nothin' and the bed bugs were ahead
The roaches hit a homerun and knocked me out of bed

Now I don't want no more of this army life
Gee, mom, I wanna go home
No, I don't want no more of this army life
Gee, mom, I wanna go, but they won't let me go
Gee, mom, I wanna go home

Bruce Springsteen played this traditional song in tribute to the World Series during the Bridge School Benefit Concert of 28 Oct 1995 at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA. The above lyrics are for that one-time-only performance of the song. Check out also the traditional version.

Spoken intro on 28 Oct 1995 at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA:

Intro: Thanks. Alright, so who's ahead, Cleveland? The Braves? Anybody, anobody's out there with one of those little TVs, sitting in their lap? I tell you, I'm glad to be out here, it got pretty nasty backstage when Chrissie Hynde's from Cleveland, she sang the national anthem. And Hootie and the Blowfish, they sang the national anthem for the Braves and, it got pretty ugly for a little wile. I had to step in front of them and it wasn't a pretty sight. Ohhh!
Outro: A little tip to the national pastime. That's the kind of entertainment we came here looking for. I don't know, I don't know, kids love that one [chuckles].
