HUNGRY HEART©

21 Jun 1979 alternate mix #1

Two, three, four
One, two, three

Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack
I went out for a ride and I never went back
Like a river that don't know where it's flowing
I took a wrong turn and I just kept going

Everybody's got a hungry heart
Everybody's got a hungry heart
Lay down your money and you play your part
Everybody's got a hu-hu-hungry heart

I met her in a Kingstown bar
We fell in love I knew it had to end
We took what we had and we ripped it apart
Now here I am down in Kingstown again

Everybody's got a hungry heart
Everybody's got a hungry heart
Lay down your money and you play your part
Everybody's got a hu-hu-hungry heart

Oh yeah
La la la la la la

Everybody wants a place to rest*
Everybody wants to have a home
Don't make no difference what nobody says
Ain't nobody like to be alone

Everybody's got a hungry heart
Everybody's got a hungry heart
Lay down your money and you play your part
Everybody's got a hu-hu-hungry heart
(Everybody's got a hungry heart)
Oh yeah
(Everybody's got a) hu-hu-hungry heart
(Lay down your money and you play your part)
Oh yeah
(Everybody's got a) hu-hu-hungry heart
La la la la la la
Ohhh yeaaah
La la la la la la
Oh yeaaah
Hmmm
Oooh

Liner notes on The Lost Masters vol. 6 bootleg booklet:

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. Power Station Studios, New York City Jun 21st 1979.
Alternate mix with extended ending. What is noticed immediately is that this take has a count-in and no vocal histrionics by Bruce during the intro prior to his singing the first verse. Piano seems to be a little more prominent in the mix, the lead vocal less so, and there are no "la, la, las" during the chorus. Extended outro has this take clocking in at around 22 seconds longer than the released version (3:19).
