HONKY TONK WOMEN©Live 09 Jul 1995 versionI met a gin soaked, bar-room queen in Memphis Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, this Rolling Stones' classic peaked at No. 1 in both the US and the UK charts. It was released on their 1969 LP Through The Past Darkly.
Known to be played with Steel Mill as part of DANCING IN THE STREET, Bruce and Steel Mill member Robbin Thompson sharing vocals, on 18 Jan 1971 at D' Scene, South Amboy, NJ. An instrumental version was played once during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town tour on 16 Jul 1978 at the New Orleans Auditorium, New Orleans, LA. Performed off-tour on 09 Jul 1995 at the Eckstein Café, Berlin, Germany, with Wolfgang Niedecken and his Leopardefell Band. The above lyrics refer to that version. Wolfgang Niedecken sings the first verse, Bruce sings the second, and they both share vocals on the chorus. The last appearance of the song was during the Reunion tour on 08 May 2000 at the Civic Center, Hartford, CT, melded into DARLINGTON COUNTY.
