From Brucebase,
about the 23 Oct 1975 show at at Gerde's Folk City, New York City, NY:
With a 6-days break in the West Coast leg of the [Born To Run] tour, Bruce and girlfriend Karen
Darbin fly back to New York to attend a private, invitation-only, surprise 61st birthday party for legendary
Gerde's Folk City owner Mike Porco (the man who hired a then-unknown Bob Dylan for his first club gigs in New
York in 1961). Not only does Dylan show up for the party - he brings along several members of his
about-to-tour Rolling Thunder Review, as well as his own film crew. This is the first time Springsteen and
Dylan had met and both formed part of a communal group that performed a rendition of HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a
Porco. Dylan also performed a duet with Joan Baez. Brief audio-video excerpts of this event are seen in
Dylan's 1978 docu-fantasy Renaldo & Clara, though no Springsteen-related footage is shown. However
the HAPPY BIRTHDAY segment was audio-video recorded and remains in the vaults.
