HAIL TO THE CHIEF is the official presidential anthem of the United States. It was written by Albert Gamse are set to James Sanderson's music.

Springsteen's Version

Although never performed it in full, an instrumental snippet of HAIL TO THE CHIEF was played during the band introductions in ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) a number of times during The River Tour in 1980 and once as an intro to ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) in 2009 – see Springsteen's live 01 Nov 1980 version and live 18 May 2009 version of ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT). Additionally, an instrumental HAIL TO THE CHIEF was sound-checked prior to the 03 Sep 1999 show in Washington, DC, during The Reunion Tour, but it was not played on the regular show.
