GOIN' BACK TO GEORGIA
Well I'm goin' back to Georgia
To spend my last few years
Away from the sadness and the tears
Well I've been out to San Francisco
When I travelled on down to L.A.
Still only one place that I can stay
With my last few dollars
And I'm gonna bring my last few dimes
Goin' back to Georgia
And I'm goin' back one more time
And I'm goin' back one more time
When I went up to New York City
And I've been out the Chicago loop
Still buddy one place that I found truth
When I sailed down the Mississippi
Well I gambled in New Orleans
Still no finer site I ever seen
With my last few dollars
And I'm gonna bring my last few dimes
Goin' back to Georgia
And I'm goin' back one more time
And I'm goin' back one more time
Yeah yeah whoaaa!
Well I'm goin' back to Georgia
Spend my last few years
Away from the sadness and the tears
Said I'm goin', goin' back to Georgia
And I'm goin', goin' back to Georgia
Said I'm goin', goin' back to Georgia
You know I'm goin' back to Georgia
With my last few dollars
And I'm gonna bring my last few dimes
Goin' back to Georgia
And I'm goin' back one more time
And we're goin' back one more time
And we're goin' back one more time
Said we're goin' back one more time
A Steel Mill track written in 1969 and recorded on 22 Feb 1970 at the Fillmore Recording Studio, San
Francisco, CA, and that recording can be found on Missing Tracks Vol. 1, The Bruce Springsteen Story
Vol. 3, and The Unsurpassed Springsteen Vol. 1 bootlegs. These lyrics refer to that recording.
This unabashed Allman Brothers influenced tune was the third most requested song of the Steel Mill era,
behind RESURRECTION and GUILTY. It is believed
that it was performed regularly during 1969, 1970, and even occasionally during the 1971 Bruce Springsteen
Band era. At least 13 live performances of this song are known, between 28 Feb 1970 at Free University,
Richmond, VA, and 17 Mar 1972 at Richmond Arena, Richmond, VA.
