GLORIA©

Live 09 Aug 1978 version

Wanna tell you 'bout my baby
When she come around
About 5 feet 4
From her head to the ground
She come around here
Just about midnight
She make me feel so good
Lord, she make me feel alright

Her name is G (G)
L (L)
O (O)
R (R)
Wa wa wa wa wa
She had a wa wa (Gloria)
She had a wa wa (Gloria)
She had a wa wa (Gloria)
She had a wa wa A (Gloria)

Written by Van Morrison and originally recorded in 1965 as a B-side by Van Morrison/Them on their album Too Long In Exile. The above lyrics refer to Bruce's live 09 Aug 1978 performance at The Agora Ballroom, Cleveland, OH. This snippet of the song was used as introduction to SHE'S THE ONE. Check also Bruce's live 30 Sep 1978 version and Van Morrison's original version.

On 26 Dec 1975 at The Bottom Line, New York City, NY, Bruce turned up for the late show on the opening night of Patti Smith's 3-night / 7-show residency at the club. Apparently Bruce is among a group of people (including Cream Magazine founder Lester Bangs) that congregate off-spotlight and supply the background chorus on GLORIA.
On 26 Nov 1976, Bruce played piano or guitar during both early and late shows of Patti Smith at The Bottom Line, New York City, NY, and GLORIA was performed on both shows.
GLORIA was used as introduction to SHE'S THE ONE, about 16 times, during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town tour.

Performed many times off-tour between 1984 and 1997, and here are the known performances:
- 10 Jun 1984 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, when Bruce and Nils join The Cats
- 02 Aug 1987 at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, with the full E Street Band except Nils
- 15 Jul 1989 at T-Birds Cafe, Asbury Park, NJ, with the X-Men
- 29 May 1994 at the Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA, with the Rock Bottom Remainders
- 21 Oct 1994 at The Playpen, Sayreville, NJ, with John Eddie, Greg Kihn, Marshall Crenshaw, and Elliott Murphy
- 12 Nov 1994 at The 11th Annual Love Ride, Los Angeles, CA
- 22 Jul 1995 at The Tradewinds, Sea Bright, NJ, with Joe Grushecky and The Iron City Houserockers
- 16 Dec 1997 at Rumrunners, Sea Bright, NJ

Played only once during the Reunion tour on 22 May 2000 Arrowhead Pond, Anaheim, CA, and only once during The Rising tour on 24 Oct 2002 at The Globe, Stockholm, Sweden.

The song appeared during the Devils & Dust tour, on 14 May 2005 at VA Patriot Center, Fairfax, PA, when Bruce played a snippet of it when he was introducing THE RIVER.
