DRIVE ALL NIGHT

Outtake version 3

Well I lost all my money, sometimes I think I lost my guts too
And I wish God would send me a word, something I'm afraid to lose
Sitting in a room, walking prisoners for the rest of our lives
Sending shivers down my spine when you watch me in your jeweled eyes

Baby baby baby, well I wanna drive all night again just to buy my baby some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I wanna sleep tonight again in her arms
Mmmmmmm

'Cause tonight there's fallen angels down in the street
Beneath our windows, baby I hear them
Tonight there's calling strangers, moving in defeat
Tonight there's fallen angels la da da da
Don't worry baby
La da da da, la da da da

Cause baby I'll drive all night again just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I wanna sleep tonight again in your arms
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Mmmmmmmmm

Published on The River and played only during that tour. The song is an evolution of the SAD EYES interlude at the end of BACKSTREETS. It was first written for Darkness On The Edge Of Town, but the length of this track is much more suited to a double album such as The River, and there was no room for straight "love songs" on Darkness On The Edge Of Town, that's why it was left out. The song was first recorded in Jun 1977 but was likely remixed and finished during The River sessions.

This outtake version was recorded during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town sessions in Jun 1977 at Atlantic Studios, New York City, NY. It's on Christmas On E Street and The Lost Masters Vol. 2 bootlegs. Check also the album's version, outtake version 1, outtake version 2, and the harmonies version.
