CRYING

Roy Orbison's original version

I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while
But I saw you last night, you held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say Hello
Aww you wished me well, you couldn't tell

That I'd been cry-i-i-i-ng over you, cry-i-i-i-ng over you
Then you said "so long". left me standing all alone
Alone and crying, crying, crying cry-i-ing
It's hard to understand but the touch of your hand
Can start me crying

I thought that I was over you but it's tru-ue, so true
I love you even more than I did before but darling what can I do-o-o-o
For you don't love me and I'll always be

Cry-i-i-i-ng over you, cry-i-i-i-ng over you
Yes, now you're gone and from this moment on
I'll be crying, crying, crying, cry-i-i-ing
Yeah crying, crying, o-o-o-o-ver you

Written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson, CRYING was originally released by Orbison in July 1961 as a single (Monument 447) with CANDYMAN as b-side. The single peaked at #2 (and the b-side at #25) on The Billboard Hot 100 and at #25 in the UK. The song became the title track on the album Crying, released in May 1962. CRYING can now be found on The Essential Roy Orbison, released on Sony Music in 2006.

In 2002, CRYING was honored with a Grammy Hall Of Fame Award, a special Grammy award established in 1973 to honor recordings that are at least twenty-five years old and that have "qualitative or historical significance". In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked CRYING #69 on their "500 Greatest Songs Of All Time" list.
