BAD MOON RISING©

Live 18 Jun 1988 version

Well I see
Well I see a bad moon rising
Yeah I see the end coming soon
Well I hear earthquakes and lightning
Yeah I hear the voice of rage and ruin

Well don't go out tonight
It's bound to take your life
Yeah there's a bad moon on the rise

Well I see the rivers overflowing
I hear the troubles on this way
Yeah I hear that hurricane blowin'
Well I've seen some bad times today

Well now don't go out tonight
It's bound to take your life
Baby there's a bad moon on the rise
Alright now!

Well I hope you have got your shit together
I hope you are quite prepared to die
Well it looks like we're in for nasty weather
Yeah one eye is taken for an eye

Well don't go out tonight
It's bound to take your life
Baby there's a bad moon on the rise

Yeah don't go out tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
Baby there's a bad moon on the rise
Come on!

Yeah now don't go out tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
Baby there's a bad moon on the rise

Well don't go out tonight
Well it's bound to take your life
Baby there's a bad moon on the rise
One more time!

Alright! Thank you. Merci.

Written by John Fogerty, from Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 album Green River. Check Creedence Clearwater Revival's original version.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River

The first known appearance was on 05 Jan 1985 at the Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA, during a Born In The USA tour show, sound-checked but not performed during the show.

The next known performance was during a surprise Halloween party on 31 Oct 1987 at the McLoone's Rumrunner club, Sea Bright, NJ, with the full E Street Band except Nils and Clarence (read below).

A famous solo-acoustic performance of the song took place on 18 Jun 1988 at Chateau De Vincennes, Paris, France, during a guest appearance by Bruce and Clarence at the SOS Racism Concert that was broadcasted on French TV. Note that that was Bruce's first live TV broadcast. The above lyrics refer to that version.

From Brucebase, about the 31 Oct 1987 performance at McLoone's Rumrunner, Sea Bright, NJ:

There was another band playing at Mcloone's on this night, and very few people got word that Bruce was gonna show up but they went to the bar which was already packed as it was Halloween and in some cases snuck in as there was no more legal room. Well the band came in all dressed in black and with masks on. They hit the stage and pulled off their masks and, after throwing the other band off, played the above listed set. The guy who was the lead guitarist in the displaced band jumped off stage grabbed a camera that he luckily had with him and shot some pictures.
