Erik Flannigan wrote for Nugs.net: "As the story goes, back in 1984, a record store employee from Seattle slipped Springsteen a Northwest Garage Rock mixtape that included 'Have Love [Will Travel]'; Springsteen found the song and it became an encore feature for the last few weeks of the U.S. Tunnel tour." Of course, the version in question is the popular cover by The Sonics, a garage rock band from Washington state. For his version, Bruce Springsteen kept the chorus but rewote much of the verses to fit the themes of the Tunnel Of Love Express Tour.
