Live 17 Nov 2006 version
Well I stood stone-like at midnight suspended in my masquerade
I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch
I strode all alone through a fallout zone, came out with my soul untouched
Hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up
([Crowd:] Oh, oh) Growin' up
Ah-one, two, three, four!
Well, the flag of piracy flew from my mast, my sails were set wing to wing
I had a jukebox graduate for first mate, she couldn't sail but she sure could sing
I pushed B-52 and I bombed 'em with the blues with my gear set stubborn on standing
Broke all the rules, strafed my old high school, never once gave thought to landing
Hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "come down" I threw up
Oh, oh, growin' up
Alright, come on boys!
I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere and you know it's really hard to hold your breath
Well I lost everything I ever loved or feared, I was the cosmic kid!
And my feet they finally took root in the earth, got me a nice little place in the stars
I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car
Hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" stood up
Oh, oh, growin' up
Yeah, yeah, growin' up
Yeeeeeahh!
One, two, a-one!
Thank you!
The above lyrics are for the live 17 Nov 2006 performance of GROWIN' UP at Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, during The Seeger Sessions Tour. The song was played in a radically revamped full-band arrangement. The live 17 Nov 2006 version of GROWIN' UP was released on the Live In Dublin album and home video in 2007.
At the end of the Seeger Sessions Tour, the three-night stand at Point Theater in Dublin, Ireland, (17-18-19 Nov 2006) was filmed with nine High Definition cameras. A selection of 23 songs from these three nights was officially released on 05 Jun 2007 on the Live In Dublin album and home video, credited to "Bruce Springsteen With The Sessions Band". "Seeger" was dropped from the band's name for this release, apparently due to the fact that many of the songs are Springsteen originals from his earlier records, or covers that are not related to Pete Seeger.
Live In Dublin is available in four formats: 2-CD set, standard DVD, 2-CD/1-DVD combo set, and Blu-ray disc.
The album charted in several countries, but only made it to #1 in Ireland.
