FADE TO BLACK

Acoustic demo #1

Ohhhh
Ohhhh
Ohhhh
You say that I, 'cause the way I've let you down
You can say that I, baby, give you up right now
But when I'm with you girl, baby there's no doubt how I feel
And I try to say it, it just fades to black

I want you as my little girl
Ohhhh, won't you be my little girl
Ohhhh yeah

Babe, matinée, baby in a one-dog town
You were two seats away, I moved two seats down
And the lights cut off, I walk out from my seat
I walk you home, as the credits rise
Fade to black
Ohhhh fade to black
Ohhhh baby fade to black
Ohhhh fade to black

Baby you can see that I, you can name the things I done
But I know baby now, I ain't the only one
Fade to black, oh there's only this black

Da da da da da da da...

Ba, bitta, bitta

Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da

Circulating Takes

Between Spring 1981 and Spring 1982, Bruce Springsteen spent much time laying down home demos at Thrill Hill Recording (Springsteen's home studio) in Colts Neck, NJ. These were non-professional home recordings most of which have first surfaced on The Lost Masters bootleg series released by the Labour Of Love label in 1996. Four acoustic home demo takes of FADE TO BLACK have surfaced from this period: an early take (see acoustic demo #1), a harmonies take (see acoustic demo #2), a very short take (see acoustic demo #3), and a very developed take (see acoustic demo #4). Note that "Acoustic demo #1", "Acoustic demo #2"... are terms assigned by this website for ease of reference.
