COME ON

Live 14 Aug 1970 version

Well, come on, are you ready
The temperature's rising and summer's coming on
Well come on, don't let them get you running now, yeah
'Cause the time is right, so let's get on
All right!

Come on, come on, are you ready
'Cause the bells are ringing and the people are singing their song
Won't you come on, don't you feel it
The world is crying for freedom, can't you hear it

Gather up your children
Bring them down to the riverside
Teach them well, show them good
They got no reason to hide
Whoa, yeah!

[Instrumental]

Gather up them children
And bring them down to the riverside
Teach them well, show them good
They got no reason to hide

Come on, you gotta be a man now
The time has come, I want to sing a new song, now
Singing, come on, don't you feel it
The world is crying for freedom
The world is crying for freedom, don't you hear it
Uh, yeah, ah, yeah!

Info

The above lyrics are for the live 14 Aug 1970 performance of COME ON at 7th And Marshall Street parking deck in Richmond, VA.

This was a triple-bill show, with blues band Marlo Mays & The Stingers opening, Mercy Flight performing second, and Steel Mill headlining and closing. The show was held under the stars on the upper deck of the parking complex and the general concept was modeled after The Beatles' memorable rooftop performance in the film Let It Be which was in theatres at the time. Incomplete audience and soundboard recordings are in circulation among collectors. Combined together, the different sources total to 110 minutes. There is a 2-4 song segment of the show that has never circulated on any source.
