The above lyrics are for the 08 Jul 1981 sound-check version of ALL I NEED at Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ, during The River Tour. The song was not played on the regular show that night, or on any other date as far as it's known. ALL I NEED was a work-in-progress at this stage. Springsteen had recently wrote the song, sometime in late June 1981, and profited from the concert sound-check to rehearse it with the band.

During The River Tour, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band performed a series of six consecutive concerts at Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ, on 02, 03, 05, 06, 08, and 09 Jul 1981. These were the first events at the newly opened arena. All six shows ─ a total of 125,922 tickets ─ were sold out.
