So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with Nakamichi microphone and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. As the Tape Man Joe Springsteen collection hits its 25th release, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank those responsible once again for it happening in the first place. First is G, the man who convinced Joe to share recordings with us. Secondly of course none of this happens without Joe attending all these shows and recording them. For anyone who has never recorded a show before, it's a taxing venture. Joe's commitment to his craft was ridiculous. The monetary investment in equipment and the cost of attending all these shows had to be enormous. Most of Joe's tape flips are in the four-second range, which is about as fast as one can flip a cassette and start recording again. The first show at the Rosemont Horizon on the Tunnel of Love tour has long circulated from the wonderful recording from legendary taper RB. It's probably a miracle that RB and Joe were able to make excellent captures at this particular venue. Maybe it's also a testament to Clair Brothers for getting such clear sound in that cinderblock barn. There is a whistling fool who must have thought that people paid to hear him. He finally wears out during the second set. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.TUNNEL OF LOVE 02.BE TRUE 03.ADAM RAISED A CAIN 04.TWO FACES 05.ALL THAT HEAVEN WILL ALLOW 06.SEEDS 07.ROULETTE 08.COVER ME 09.BRILLIANT DISGUISE 10.SPARE PARTS 11.WAR 12.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 13.TOUGHER THAN THE REST 14.SHE'S THE ONE 15.YOU CAN LOOK (BUT YOU BETTER NOT TOUCH) 16.I'M A COWARD 17.I'M ON FIRE 18.ONE STEP UP 19.PART MAN, PART MONKEY 20.WALK LIKE A MAN 21.DANCING IN THE DARK 22.LIGHT OF DAY 23.BORN TO RUN 24.HUNGRY HEART 25.GLORY DAYS 26.LOVE ME TENDER 27.ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) 28.DETROIT MEDLEY - I HEAR A TRAIN - SWEET SOUL MUSIC - SHAKE Known faults: Tape flip between Roulette and Cover Me. "Part Man, Part Monkey" includes "Love Is Strange" in the outro. "Born To Run" is solo acoustic. Audience tape available from 'Rick B's recording, 'Taking Two Steps Back - Live At The Rosemont Horizon' (Ev2). This recording was made by a legendary local taper (he also taped the outstanding Chicago 08/09/85, Lincoln and Kansas City '84 shows, and many others). Sound quality is among the best of the tour, although this recording suffers from some low-hiss (barely audible).
