Artwork incorrectly states the performances took place in 1969. It was 1970. Artwork included with upload. Self scanned at 600 dpi. Sort of repress of the GDR boxed set, in lesser brilliant quality and a couple of songs added. Tracks 4-5 from 18-jan-1971? Reissued on a gold-colored disc Soundboard tape. It is also reported that Satin Doll was played at this gig. I Gotta Be Free is often on the setlists for this gig, but was not played. One 90-minute show, with STEEL MILL the sole act on the bill. BOZ SCAGGS was the scheduled headliner for this show but he cancelled at that last minute due to illness and STEEL MILL was substituted. This is the show attended by critic Philip Elwood, who came with the intention of reviewing Scaggs but ended up writing a highly favorable review of the STEEL MILL that appeared in the 14/1/70 edition of The San Francisco Examiner ("The fist thing's that's happened to Asbury Park since … '34") Tinker West recorded most of the band's performances during the California trip. The long-circulating, excellent soundboard tape listed above is likely (but not absolutely certain) to emanate from this show, as it seems to correspond closely to details mentioned in Elwood's article. Elwood mentions that the group opened with a brief warm-up instrumental rendition of "Satin Doll" - that track doesn't appear on the circulating tape. However the other tracks mentioned by Elwood do appear and the crowd noise corresponds with Elwood's 1984 comments that only about 50 people were in attendance.
